PROJECT GOALS
Hunger Action Month aims to shed light on the pressing issue of food insecurity that affects millions of Canadians. Through a variety of events, educational activities, and advocacy efforts, the campaign encourages communities to engage in meaningful actions to combat hunger. These actions can include donating to local food banks, volunteering, participating in fundraising events, and advocating for policies that support food security.
To effectively raise awareness and drive action against food insecurity during Hunger Action Month, we developed a series of strategic events and campaigns. Our comprehensive plan included a variety of initiatives designed to engage the community, generate publicity, and foster widespread participation.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS
Flag Raising Event Kickoff: We launched Hunger Action Month with a Flag Raising Event at City Hall. This symbolic event, attended by local dignitaries, community leaders, and supporters, served as a powerful visual representation of our commitment to fighting hunger. The flag raising not only garnered media attention but also set the tone for the month-long campaign, encouraging community members to get involved.
Email Campaign Plan: We implemented a targeted email campaign to keep our supporters informed and engaged throughout the month. The campaign included weekly newsletters featuring updates on events, volunteer opportunities, and stories of impact. Each email provided actionable steps for recipients to contribute to the cause, whether through donations, volunteer work, or advocacy.
Workflow Plan: Our digital media strategy was designed to maintain a steady stream of engaging content throughout Hunger Action Month. We created a content calendar with daily posts that included graphics, videos, infographics. The plan also involved interactive elements such as challenges, polls, and live Q&A sessions to encourage community participation and dialogue.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHT: CANSTRUCTION 2023
Canstruction 2023 was a highlight of Hunger Action Month, serving as both a unique community event and a powerful fundraiser for the Burlington Food Bank. This innovative competition brought together local businesses, schools, and community groups to build large-scale structures entirely out of canned goods. The event was held at Burlington Mall and culminated in the donation of all canned goods to the food bank, making a direct and significant impact on food security in our community.
EVENT WEBPAGE
The event webpage serves as the central hub for all information related to Canstruction. It provides comprehensive details about the event, including dates, location, registration information, guidelines, schedules, and contact details. This centralization ensures that all stakeholders can easily access accurate and up-to-date information.
EVENT PROCESS DOCUMENT
This document provides a clear and detailed outline of the event’s procedures, ensuring that all participants and organizers follow the same guidelines. This consistency helps maintain the quality and integrity of the event, making sure each Canstruction is executed to the same high standard year after year.
EVENT GOALS:
Raising Awareness: The event drew substantial public interest and media coverage, spotlighting the issue of food insecurity and the vital work of the Burlington Food Bank. The visually striking and creative can structures captured the attention of shoppers and passersby, sparking conversations about hunger and encouraging community engagement.
Community Engagement: By involving diverse teams from local businesses, schools, and community organizations, Canstruction fostered a sense of community and collaboration. Participants worked together towards a common goal, strengthening community bonds and highlighting the collective effort needed to combat hunger.
Fundraising and Donations: The event served as a major food drive, with all the canned goods used in the constructions being donated to the Burlington Food Bank. This not only replenished our food supplies but also provided much-needed resources to support families in need.
Creativity and Innovation: Canstruction showcased the creativity and ingenuity of our community. Teams designed and built impressive structures, demonstrating that addressing serious issues like hunger can be approached with creativity and innovation.
